Laois School of Music
The Laois School of Music (LSM) was established in 2001 by the Arts Office of Laois County Council with the support of
Laois Vocational Educational Committee and the Arts Council of Ireland.
380 students, 18 part-time specialist Music teachers and a full-time Co-ordinator. We provide quality tuition in Piano,
Guitar, Strings, Woodwind, Voice, Percussion, Kindermusic, Junior and Leaving Cert. music. There is a comprehensive Orchestral programme in place with a Youth Orchestra of 34 a Senior Ensemble of 18 and a Flue Choir of 5 for students from ages 7 to 17.These groups participate in many local and national events on an annual basis.
We have collaborated the past with The National Symphony Orchestra (2006)and National Concert Orchestra (2011).
Nuala brings a wealth of administrative experience to her role as Laois School of Music, where she has been Co-ordinator since 2002. The School of Music has developed under her guidance into a centre of excellence for Music tuition in Laois and the surrounding Midlands counties. Organisational achievements of note include a successful residency with the RTE National Symphony Orchestra, a Composer in Residency Scheme, Continuing Professional Development Partnership with the National Conservatory of Music and the on-going development of Laois School of Music student body and Orchestral programme.
Nuala is also an experienced Choral Conductor and is on the Music Generation Laois Choral Team, working in Primary Schools across the county.
Rosa is Co-ordinator of Music Generation Laois, a performance music education programme for children and young people, part of Music Generation, Ireland’s National Music Education Initiative. Rosa has worked with children and young people for a number of years, as well as working on a range of Arts projects in Ireland. Music Generation Laois currently has a student body of 1800 students, and tuition is provided in a range of contexts including primary, post-primary and local tuition centres. The Programme provides access to instruments, through a eclectic instrument bank, and tuition ranges from Rock and Pop, to world music to Irish Traditional Music.
Previous roles for Rosa included working with Galway Arts Festival, Droichead Arts Centre, Tulca Festival of Visual Arts, Nomad Theatre Network and Donegal Music Education Partnership. Music Generation Laois work in close partnership with Laois School of Music, and Rosa is a Member of The Laois School of Music Board of Directors.
